The divorce rate in Bollywood may not be as high as its US counterpart, but the Hindi film industry definitely has its share of nasty breakups. Here are the top ten.
Freida Pinto, an aspiring actress till a few months ago, is today India's global face. After walking the red carpet at the prestigious Golden Globes and the BAFTAs, she is all set to appear at the Oscars, but there is one problem. A certain Rohan Antao to whom she is either engaged or married claims that he doesn't even know he's been dumped while she says she's never heard of such a person. But some pictures floating around say something else.
If we speak about unceremonious dumping, Deepika isn't far behind Freida. Rumour has it that the budding actress dumped her boyfriend Nihar Pandya soon after she landed the 'Om Shanti Om' project.
Long before the world officially knew about Ranbir as the man in Deepika's life, it was Yuvraj Singh who was rumoured to be Deepika's beau. It was also said the Deepika met Yuvi's mother who loved her and then all of sudden, there were pictures and magazine covers with Deepika and Ranbir with words like 'Truly, madly, deeply'.
It is inevitable for Ash and Salman to feature on a list of nastiest Bollywood breakups. In one of the ugliest and most public splits that Bollywood has seen, Ash and Salman called it quits after two years of romance, accusations of coercion, assault and the likes.
Another terrible breakup was between Abhishek Bachchan and Karishma Kapoor. Even before Abhi entered Bollywood, he was engaged to Karishma. However, the engagement broke due to inexplicable reasons and the Bachchans and the Kapoors swore never to see eye-to-eye again.
The Akshay Kumar-Shilpa Shetty breakup is also a dark mark over Bollywood. There were accusations of cheating and of some serious defamation on both sides. However, it seems the two have worked things out and have moved on in a way that they can share a workspace again
Chhote Nawab Saif Ali Khan has had a few bad breakup experiences. After years of marriage and two kids, Saif and wife Amrita Singh called it quits. Rumour has it that things turned ugly when Saif froze their joint accounts and created other monetary hassles for Amrita.
Saif's other high-profile romance was with Italian girlfriend Rosa Catalano. No one quite knows what went wrong, but she did make some public statements saying she didn't know Saif was married before they started going out.
One of Bollywood's most-talked-about breakup till date is between Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha. The two did a number of films together and their 'relationship' was the talk of the town for a while, especially after the casting of both Rekha and Jaya Bachchan opposite Big B in 'Silsila'. Things obviously turned ugly because now they don't even acknowledge each other.
Finally, the Shahid-Kareena breakup is also among the controversial splits of Bollywood.
There were accusations of Amrita Rao and later Vidya Balan coming between the two. Kareena's quick next romance with Saif was also attributed as a reason for the breakup.
They have however decided to be mature about it, and agreed to complete the last film they were working on together before they split.
